Install the DHCP Server Role
- In Server Manager, click on Add roles and features.
- Click Next.
- Choose Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next.
- Choose the server to install DHCP and click Next.
- Check the box for DHCP Server.
- Click Add Features then Next.
- On the Features page, click Next (no additional features are needed for DHCP).
- Review your selections and click Install. The installation will proceed.
- Click on the notification flag in Server Manager and select Complete DHCP configuration.
- Click Commit.
Configure DHCP Server
- In Server Manager, click on Tools then select DHCP to open the DHCP management console.
- In the DHCP console, right-click on IPv4 then select New Scope.
- Enter a name for the scope.
- Enter the range of IP addresses to be assigned.
- (Optional) Add Exclusions or click Next.
- Leave the default lease duration of 8 days and click Next.
- Enter the IP address of your network’s default gateway (router) and click Next.
- Click Next.
- Choose Yes, I want to activate this scope now to make the scope immediately available for IP address assignments.
- Click Next then Finish.
Verify DHCP Functionality
- Test IP Assignment.
- Connect a client device to the network and verify that it receives an IP address from the DHCP server.
- Connect a client device to the network and verify that it receives an IP address from the DHCP server.
- Check DHCP Leases.
- In the DHCP management console, expand the scope and click on Address Leases to view the IP addresses assigned to clients.
