Setup DHCP Server

Install the DHCP Server Role

  1. In Server Manager, click on Add roles and features.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Choose Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next.
  4. Choose the server to install DHCP and click Next.
  5. Check the box for DHCP Server.
  6. Click Add Features then Next.
  7. On the Features page, click Next (no additional features are needed for DHCP).
  8. Review your selections and click Install. The installation will proceed.
  9. Click on the notification flag in Server Manager and select Complete DHCP configuration.
  10. Click Commit.

Configure DHCP Server

  1. In Server Manager, click on Tools then select DHCP to open the DHCP management console.
  2. In the DHCP console, right-click on IPv4 then select New Scope.
  3. Enter a name for the scope.
  4. Enter the range of IP addresses to be assigned.
  5. (Optional) Add Exclusions or click Next.
  6. Leave the default lease duration of 8 days and click Next.
  7. Enter the IP address of your network’s default gateway (router) and click Next.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Choose Yes, I want to activate this scope now to make the scope immediately available for IP address assignments.
  10. Click Next then Finish.

Verify DHCP Functionality

  1. Test IP Assignment.
    • Connect a client device to the network and verify that it receives an IP address from the DHCP server.
  2. Check DHCP Leases.
    • In the DHCP management console, expand the scope and click on Address Leases to view the IP addresses assigned to clients.
